Hellena K. Chrones serves as the current St. Andrew’s Women’s Philoptochos Society President. She has been a lifelong member of St. Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Church serving the church in many capacities.
Hellena was a Sunday School teacher for four years immediately upon graduating from college, has chaired the Palm Sunday luncheon for St. Andrew’s with her husband, Jeff Chrones, for 23 years and has been a Philoptochos Board member for the past 25 years. She chaired her first event for SAWPS, a fashion show by Saks Fifth Avenue, soon after graduating college and has worked for Philoptochos in many capacities since then including chairing other fashion shows & dinner dances, serving as Philoptochos Board Secretary and, most recently, as Treasurer.
Hellena is very involved within the Metropolis of Chicago, currently serving on the Executive Board of the St. Iakovos Retreat Center as Secretary and as President of the Hellenic Society of Constantinople. For years, she has co-chaired the annual Commemoration of the Fall of Constantinople event in conjuntion with the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago and the Order of St. Andrew, Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. She works closely with the Archons to raise awareness and promote the religious freedom of minorities across the world but most importantly in Asia Minor affecting our Ecumenical Patriarch.
Hellena is a degreed Chemist from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign with graduate studies in Environmental Management. Previously, she was employed as a Nuclear Chemist at the Zion Nuclear Generating Station prior to its closure. Today, she works for various philanthropic causes close to her heart and cares for her husband, Jeff, and three children, Constance, Jeffery and Christina.
