Rev. Fr. Dimitri Tobias was assigned to the parish of St. Andrew’s in September of 2021.Rev. Born in Colorado Springs, CO to Dr. Richard and Angela Tobias, Fr. Dimitri is the middle of three sons. Both parents served in the United Air Force so Fr. Dimitri grew up traveling from base to base. Graduating High School in Germantown Tennessee, he traveled to Brookline, MA to enroll in Hellenic College where he graduated in 2004 with a B.A. in Religious Studies. Continuing at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, Fr. Dimitri graduated with a Masters of Divinity in 2007.
From 2007 until 2009 Fr. Dimitri worked as the Registrar of the Metropolis of Chicago where he processed paperwork for Baptisms, Chrismations, Weddings, and Funerals. During this time he also served as the driver and personal assistant to His Grace Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos, Chancellor of the Metropolis of Chicago, traveling to all of the parishes of the Metropolis.
From 2009 until 2012 Fr. Dimitri served as the Lay Assistant to Rev. Fr. Peter Balkas at the Parish of St. Nectarios in Palatine, IL. While there Fr. Dimitri met Mary Sourounis and the two were married in January of 2012 by Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos. While Fr. Dimitri felt honored and blessed to serve in that parish, finding his loving wife far eclipsed the other blessings.
On June 29, 2012, the Feast of SS. Peter and Paul, Fr. Dimitri was ordained to Holy Diaconate by the laying on of hands of Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos through the authority of Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago at SS. Peter & Paul in Glenview, IL, where he was assigned as the assistant to Rev. Fr. James Dokos.
On September 2, 2012, the Feast of St. Mammas the Martyr, Fr. Dimitri was ordained to the Holy Priesthood by the laying on of hands of Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos through the authority of Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago at the Parish of St. Nectarios in Palatine, IL where Fr. Dimitri had previously served.
From August of 2013 until November of 2017, Fr. Dimitri served as Proistamenos of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Sioux City, Iowa. In October of 2013 the parish hosted the Metropolis of Chicago Clergy Laity Conference with Fr. Dimitri’s guidance and leadership.
On September 24, 2016, Fr. Dimitri and Presvytera Mary welcomed their son, Vasilios-Chrysovalantis into the world. On December 11, 2016, Fr. Dimitri was elevated to the rank of Confessor by the hand of His Grace Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos through the authority of Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago, allowing him to serve the flock of Holy Trinity in a more powerful way by hearing their confessions. Prior to that point, V. Rev. Fr. Christodoulos Margellos served as a guest confessor at the invitation of Fr. Dimitri.
Fr. Dimitri Tobias was assigned to the parish of St. Basil in November of 2017, where he served until September of 2021. From 2018 until present, he has served as the Secretary of the Clergy Syndesmos of the Metropolis of Chicago. From 2017-2018 and from 2019- until present, he has served on the Metropolis Council
Fr. Dimitri seeks above all else to build the Body of Christ. His mission for the Parish of St. Andrew’s is to build that body through bountiful religious services, educational classes, fellowship opportunities and outreach through the example of our Patron Saint.
